hi i have had a melanoma cut out from my back and my lymph nodes from under my right arm taken out. Out of 22 nodes two were cancerous.Now they would like to put me on a drugs trial Avastin what are my chances of staying clear doctors seem unsure.do you know anyone esle in this posistion.My organs are clear at present.can you advise?

Hi Carolyn,

Sorry to have to welcome you here, the diagnosis of melanoma is a shock, but you've come to the right place for support and information.

You might get more response to your query if you post it in the general discussion forum. I'll tell you what I know about the avastin trial though. It's a randomised trial where a computer randomly selects who gets the drug and who gets nothing. I got nothing! I believe it's a phase 2 trial, which means it's already been tested before and shown signs of promise. However, that doesn't mean that it will work to prevent a recurrence of melanoma, just that it might. For this reason and because melanoma is so unpredictable, no doctor would be able to give you a straight answer.

I have now started avastin it would be nice if i could here from others on the trial.

* gastric cancer,
* cancer of rectum and large intestine,

* kidney tumours,

o angiosarcoma,
o rhabdomyosarcoma.

Have you reported this to the board admin? It might be better to get such things removed rather than entering into slanging matches with people who wouldn't know a peer review if it came through the door and bit them.
