My mothers Melonoma has come back

Postby roxy » Sun Apr 12, 2009 8:43 pm

My mother had a body scan and it shows that it has traveled into her body, she has had 3 lots of cemo (cyctatin) and has 3 more to come.
My question is, after the 6 cemos will she have anymore or is that the end of the treatment.
I would like to ask the doctor but we are scared of the answer. and mum said she doesn't wish to now what her future holds. But in a way i need to now. Because i feel i need to prepare myself. I just cant believe this has happening, Mum has never sunbathed or been on a sunbed.
I could just cry and cry for her and her future.

Dear Roxy,

Sorry you have waited a while for a response you will usually get more responses in the general forum this area doesn’t tend to get much traffic you might want to re post there so that people who are undergoing this level of treatment can offer you some advice.

In principal it is possible to have more than one course of treatment if the response to the drug is positive; however I think for a definitive answer you would really need to speak to the medical team treating your mum who will know how she is responding to the drug.

My only advice is that sometimes we want to know too much and if your mum kind of doesn’t want to know then you have to think hard about asking for that information because if you know and she does not it is very hard to keep your emotions or body language from alerting the person that something is wrong....not knowing sometimes can be a positive in that your approach can be more lets live for the moment now rather than worry for tomorrow ( but this is easier said than done) the words are easy to write but believing it is a whole new mind set.

I hope that your mum responds well to the treatment (others have) and that she has a whole lot more quality of life you sound like a really good support to her so keep up the good work and remember to look after yourself as well.
best wishes and regards
Sharon

Hi Roxy.

I'm having Chemo for Melanoma, but have just started. I'm having either 3 or 6 cycles, depending on how it goes, of DTIC (Decarbazine). I know some people have Decarbazine + Cisplatin, which is maybe what your Mum is having? There are some other things that are tried if one thing doesn't work, but trying everything that is out there is not right for everyone, so if your Mum decides to stop treatment after these 6 cycles that may be the right thing for her.

I do wish her and you well, and hope that this treatment works for her, or at least gives you some quality time together.

Thank You, to the kind people who replied. Mum is on the 4Th chemo of cisplatin and she said that it has got easy er as she knows what to expect. and how to deal with the affects.
She has a full scan appointment to see what has changed. due in a couple of weeks. So maybe we will get some good news then.
Thanks Roxy

All for chemo...

Postby Sunshine_75 » Tue Aug 04, 2009 1:01 pm

All I know for the chemotherapy is that the drugs are usually given in cycles: a treatment period followed by a Stellenangebote recovery period, then another treatment period, and so on. Usually a patient has chemotherapy as an outpatient (at the hospital, at the doctor's office, or at home). However, depending on which drugs are given and the patient's general health, a short hospital stay may be needed.
I hope that I help you :)
