Best of luck Mike and Twirliegirl, really hope you both get good news.
It's hard to understand why some moles that perfectly fit the melanoma tick boxes end up being plain old dysplastic nevi, but they do. Of my 9 dodgy moles - 3 were melanoma and 6 were dysplastic nevi. My sister had a suspected nodula melanoma removed in the summer which looked and behaved exactly like a NM - the pathology came back that it was a precancerous dysplastic nevus. Just goes to show you never can tell and it's always best just to get it checked out and wherever possible got rid of. Keep us posted and all the very best to you both, Sharon E

Hi, I had 3 moles removed about 3 weekes ago...the results came back and i have been referred to a Dematalogist, my appointment is on 3rd april....just because iv been referred does it mean i have cancer? or can it mean its harmless.......im just abit confuessed atm as my Doctor used big words i didnt understand and tbh i was too shocked to take anything in as i thought the results would come back Ok.

Im 21, I had 3 moles removed but it was only one that came back with the 'bad results' the one that came back bad appeared from no where roughly a year ago....it wasnt even a freckle beforehand...i just woke up one day and it was there....it wasnt very big just average size i would say

so as you can tell im very confussed and would be rele grateful if anyone could give me some advice on what to apect on my appoitmnet with the dermatolagist

Thank you xx

Hi Vanessa

Just because you've been referred to a Dermatologist certainly does NOT mean you have cancer. Seeing as your appoinment is for a month's time, rather than the urgent two week window, you should also not panic. If you didn't understand what your GP said to you, why don't you ring up for a GP phone appointment and ask him or her to explain what they said again - as you were in shock at the time and didn't quite get their meanin? I'm sure they would be more than happy to do this. Good luck!

Vanessa,

I know how your feeling and it is the not knowing which is the scariest thought but if I can offer any advise I would discuss any worries with this lovely community as they really do help you come to terms with the ordeal. You will understand more about Melanoma here then searching the Internet as people have first experience of the horrible situation and can talk to you through each step.

Which leads me to some POSITIVE news - I got my results back this morning and my mole was dysplastic nevus and they completely removed the entire thing so I am in the clear. However, I have already started educating people about their skin and their responsibilities and hope to continue to make people aware of this horrible illness.

I will continue to check in regularly and want to thank everyone again for their support - seriously without your input I would of got nuts.

Bet wishes

xxxx
